10% of bets on the events of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which kicked off on November 20 in Qatar, will be paid in cryptocurrencies. This conclusion was made by the analysts of the portal Crypto Gambling News and Odds Gecko based on the results of a joint study.
This data was obtained from interviews with sports betting operators. Experts suggest that the total value of betting on major football events over four years will exceed the $130 billion achieved at the end of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The turnover of cryptocurrency bets will be about $18 billion.
According to the report, Bitcoin will account for 60% of cryptocurrency betting. The second place is occupied by Tether with a share of 30%. The remaining crypto-currencies account for a total of 10% of the volume of such bets.
Representatives of the report noted the following: «Over the past four years, the cryptocurrency betting market has grown significantly, and we expect this development to lead to an increase in betting volume over the next month. More and more regulators are looking to include crypto-currency rates in the regulatory framework, and this trend will continue in the future.»
