Rivalry, one of the most influential figures in the esports betting industry headquartered in Canada, has released a report on esports betting trends over the past year in hopes of shedding light on the rest of the industry.
Rivalry has found League of Legends to be the most popular esports game in 2022 and has long established itself as the most popular market for players.
This was followed by CS:GO and Dota 2 which were very popular for a while, followed by Valorant and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at 4th and 5th.
In terms of the top three games, the Canadian bookmaker explained that LoL, CS:GO and Dota 2 accounted for 90% of all bets over the past 12 months.
Looking ahead to 2023, Rivalry has put forward three key predictions. Firstly, the aforementioned Valorant continues to gain popularity. Secondly, mobile games will continue to gain momentum. Third, game publishers continue to embrace betting on esports.
Continuing the review of consumer preferences for 2022, the Rivalry report also points to some regional differences. The company has found that CS:GO is the dominant product in its two most important markets, Australia and Canada.
That said, LoL remains popular in Latin America, which accounts for 60% of esports betting volume, and Southeast Asian esports enthusiasts are clearly big Dota 2 fans.
Rivalry claims that markets outside of Canada and Australia, as well as Latin America, are going wild for League of Legends.
In addition, the company found that the majority of esports bettors are also fans of live betting, with 62% of customers choosing to bet during a game and 38% before a match.
Finally, for those interested in cross-selling esports and traditional sports, Rivalry has published its findings on which of the latter are most popular with esports bettors.
