Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) generated by the Macau Casinos in February 2023 was MOP 10.32 billion (USD 1.27 billion). This follows from a report recently released by the Bureau of Gambling Inspection and Coordination of the Special Administrative Region of China (DICJ).
According to the document, Macau casinos’ revenue increased by 33.1% compared to the same period in 2022, when it reached MOP 7.76 billion.
In the first two months of 2023, Macau casinos’ revenues amounted to MOP 21.9 billion, an increase of 55.3% compared to the previous year.
In addition, in the fourth quarter of 2022, 30 casinos from six operators, including satellite casinos, operated in the Special Administrative Region of China.
Among the 13 gambling establishments operated under license and sublicense by operator SJM Holdings, there were five associated with Venetian Casinos, four each with Galaxy Casino and Melco Crown, and two each with Wynn Resorts and MGM.
The number of gaming tables at the end of the quarter was 5,605, down 369 compared to the third quarter of 2022. The number of slot machines was 10,775, down 1,612 from the previous quarter.
From January 1, 2023, the licenses of six existing operators were extended for another 10 years based on the results of the previous tender.
From 2023, satellite casino operators, which are mostly third parties, will be given a three-year transition period. After this period, they will only receive the agreed fixed costs from the concessionaire and will not be able to claim any income from their activities.
