Romanian Operator Remains Without License After Scandal With Regulator

The license of the Romanian operator of slot machines Goldprest Impex SRL was revoked by the country’s regulator after discovering the fact of non-payment of the full amount of the fee.

An investigation into several aspects of Goldprest Impex SRL’s activities, including the payment of fees, resulted in the revocation of the license.

The Commission stated that the operator paid only 97,753 lei out of 366,573 lei in debt. This is 268,820 lei less than the amount stipulated by the Romanian Gambling Law.

On March 20 and 22, 2023, Goldprest Impex SRL submitted a report on the settlement of the difference in payments. The company paid 268,869 lei more than the 268,820 lei originally due to the change in the exchange rate.

The Commission said that Goldprest Impex SRL filed the correct amount of tax in Q4 2022 and Q1 2023. However, during these quarters, a number of corrections were filed for Q4 2021.

The Commission also noted that the fee paid by the operator for the permit for the fourth quarter of 2021 was lower than required — 46,935 lei.

The operator submitted a statement of correction on April 6, 2022, which stated an increase in the authorization fee in the amount of 46,935 lei. Later, on November 10, 2022, another correction statement was issued, however, it was 46,935 lei less than the one envisaged.

Subsequently, six correction applications were filed, three on January 19, 2023 and three on March 20, 2023, which lowered the permit fee for the fourth quarter of 2021 to varying degrees.

In total, seven corrections were made for a total of 444,348 lei.

The commission revoked the license of Goldprest Impex SRL to operate slot machines and confirmed that the operator would have to pay the remaining difference in the license fee.
