The Romanian National Gaming Office (ONJN) has revoked the license of Betting Frenzy, a Bucharest-based operator, after discovering tax violations on the part of the operator. The company did not declare or pay taxes, including contributions to the Olympic and Sports Committee of Romania in the amount of 1% and fees to the National Paralympic Committee in the amount of 0.2%.
In 2022, Romania passed legislation that makes it imperative for the gambling operators to make payments to the above-mentioned institutions.
ONJN found that Betting Frenzy owed 3.2 million LEI ($706,000) in gambling taxes.
In addition, the investigation also revealed that Betting Frenzy did not provide the necessary documents to the National Games Office. As a result of these violations ONJN revoked Betting Frenzy’s license.
Betting Frenzy submitted a total of 17 documents to the National Betting Office, but none of them were accompanied by supporting documents that would reflect the intention of the company to pay taxes.
As a result of this decision, Betting Frenzy is no longer authorized to offer slot machines in Romania.
The decision to prosecute Betting Frenzy will be valid until 2032, and the company was fined 100,000 LEI.
It will also have to fully offset its tax penalties. The decision has been signed by ONJN President Mihail-Silviu Pocora and is effective immediately. Betting Frenzy has 30 days to appeal the decision.
