Ukraine Proposes to Restrict Banks from Issuing Loans to Players Who Have Excluded Themselves from Gambling

The Committee of the Finance, Tax and Customs Policy has proposed amendments to the Ukrainian gambling law, which will make banks conduct more thorough checks of their customers.

Lenders will have to determine if the person is already involved in gambling. If a player is found to be on the self-exclusion list, they will not be eligible to enter into a loan deal. This includes a ban on online gambling and access to national land-based establishments.

The amendment is awaiting final approval.

This offer is the latest in a series of changes in the Ukrainian gambling regulations.

Earlier this year, the Ukrainian Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) identified an increase in self-exclusion by players.

In the first four months of this year, 245 people were on the list. Up from 195 in 2021 and 315 in 2022, there were 687 people on the list by the end of April.
