The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Wants To Revoke OLIMP.KZ Licence

According to Press.kz, The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan has filed a lawsuit with the Specialized Interdistrict Economic Court of Almaty with a demand to revoke the betting license of Olimp.kz.

There is currently no information about the reasons for the department to initiate the lawsuit. However, back in July 2023, the Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, Askhat Oralov, publicly announced his plans to withdraw betting licenses from three companies at once, without specifying their names.

Since 2017, the Olimp.kz bookmaker, operating under the control of the legal entity NetBet LLC, has been actively operating in the Kazakhstan market. The founders of the company are Darina Denisova and Andrey Petukhov. For the period from 2017 to 2023, Olimp.kz successfully contributed a total amount of $293.6 million in taxes to the local budget.

It should be noted that starting from 2021, the number of bookmakers in Kazakhstan has more than halved. If in 2021 there were 38 companies operating on the local market, at present there are only 16 bookmakers in the country (in fact, 12 of them are active).

In the near future, restrictions on gambling advertising will probably be introduced in the Kazakhstani betting market. In the fall of 2023, it is planned to consider a bill that provides for a ban of advertising bookmakers and sweepstakes on the facades of buildings, in the media, on the Internet, television and radio.
