Betsson prolongs its sponsorship with Greek basketball team AEK BC, deepening its influence in the country’s sports marketing. This is the third consecutive season that the NASDAQ-listed online gambling company has remained a key partner of the club, especially important in its 100th anniversary year.
It is worth noting that AEK BC also announced that it will be renamed AEK Betsson BC, which is in line with the operator’s marketing strategy to diversify its sports partnerships in Greece.
“The two strong brands join forces again, signing a historic naming agreement, which is a starting point for new conquests, always guided by shared values, a sense of rivalry and healthy competition, and aiming at corporate responsibility initiatives with a social stamp,” — club representatives commented.
Thanos Marnos, Betsson’s Managing Director for Greece noted that Betsson’s sports marketing has become a key factor in building the local brand image. He emphasized the company’s strategy of “doing things differently.” Betsson avoids one major sponsorship, preferring to diversify its activities across seven different tournaments and clubs. Examples include Betsson WRC Rally Acropolis and Betsson Super League 2, as well as working with the first amateur club in Greece to collaborate with two influential figures in this field.
“The Super League 2 partnership goes with the nature of our brand from market entry. There are big established players here, and at the time we were a challenger brand, and wanted to challenge the status quo, gain significant market share and make an impact,”— added Marnos.
