The Bulgarian prosecutor’s office is launching an investigation into the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) and its president, Borislav Mikhailov.
The incident occurred after a protest rally took place in Sofia against the leadership of the BFU, which has been headed by Mikhailov for over 18 years.
The prosecutor’s office reported violations and/or crimes of various types (expenditure of public funds, black lottery, etc.).
Material about the “black lottery” with the participation of Borislav Mikhailov was published online: in 2022, it was reported that in 2011, the president of the BFU met in Singapore with the so-called “organizer” of the Toto mafia, Tan Sit Eng (nicknamed Dan Tan).
Then the website that conducted the investigation presented a photograph in which both of them can be seen, as well as the former president of Belasitsa, Kostadin Hadzhiivanov.
When the information was published, Mikhailov took it as a denunciation from his rival for the presidency, Dimitar Berbatov. There have also been several media reports in recent years about abuses or conflicts of interest involving the Football Association.
