An error in Denmark’s self-exclusion registry ROFUS that affected around 1,200 listed players has been addressed by the Danish Gambling Authority Spillemyndigheden.
The mistake allowed some players who renewed their self-exclusion under ROFUS to nevertheless access gambling through physical casinos and betting machines, with the renewals skipping on some games that are typically covered by the ROFUS scheme.
After receiving complaints and apparently affecting some 1,200 people, Spillemyndigheden has made changes to add all relevant games under the ROFUS self-exclusion renewals, and has ensured that this would not happen again to future registrants.
The shortcoming has also been reported to the Danish Data Protection Agency as a data breach.
“The Danish Gambling Authority makes a great effort to ensure that ROFUS is a stable and reliable service that you can trust. Therefore, it is also very regrettable that there is an error in the system,” added Spillemyndigheden.
Danish gambling has seen an uptick of 1% of GGR in 2023 compared to the previous year according to the latest report from the country’s regulator.
Safer gambling efforts have also been a key highlight throughout last year, with ROFUS seeing a record 46,152 new registrations – making the registry the most accessible it has ever been since its inception back in 2012.
