Bulgaria Is Considering Banning Gambling Advertising

Bulgarian MPs have proposed new changes to the Gambling Law shortly after rejecting a proposal to address gambling problems through changes to advertising rules.

The new proposal, supported by GERB-UDF and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, aims to completely ban gambling advertising in all types of media. The measure would also ban advertising near schools, but billboards would continue to advertise games in other locations, according to MRF’s Yordan Tsonev.

The new proposal also allows advertising of adult sports equipment in gyms.

An additional change included in the new proposal is that gambling halls would be limited to communities with a population of more than 5,000 people.

The new proposal from GERB and MRF comes weeks after both sides rejected an earlier proposal to change the way gambling advertising is regulated in the country.
