Macau’s Gross Gaming Revenue Sets Record in May

In May Macau’s gaming industry’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached its highest level since the pandemic.

Macau’s total GGR for the past month was $2.52 billion, up 29 percent year-on-year. It was also 9 percent better than April’s. This growth was driven by the lifting of the last restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This also marks the region’s resilient gaming sector, which continues to exceed expectations in terms of turnover – in March, it also showed a 53.1 percent increase year-on-year to $2.4 billion. Also, since March, not only tourism in general but also the gaming sector in particular has seen strong growth.

Earlier, Macau Tourism Authority Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes predicted tourism in the region would grow to 33 million people.

Recall that MGM China stated that the company no longer requires additional financing and a credit line with the controlling shareholder MGM Resorts. Moreover, after the approval of the Credit Agreement, it turned out that it remained untouched.
