Evoke plc Subsidiary’s Romanian License Was Suspended for 48 Hours

Evoke plc subsidiary, 888 Romania Limited, experienced a 48-hour suspension of its gaming license in Romania from June 14 to 16. The suspension stems from an ONJN investigation into the blocking of several customer accounts due to betting integrity violations identified through IBIA alerts regarding suspicious bets.

Romanian customers attempting to access 888sport.ro were met with a maintenance notice stating: “Our website is currently down, we apologize for the inconvenience. We are conducting maintenance to improve your user experience. Rediscover the magic of 888 from 16/06/2024 at 00:00. Thank you for your understanding. The 888 Romania team.”

Evoke confirmed the suspension but deemed it unjustified and has appealed the decision in court.

ONJN determined that Evoke should have informed the appropriate authorities about the blocked accounts, as they would have been better equipped to investigate the betting integrity violations. Normally, operators have ten days to investigate such violations before reporting to authorities. This period can extend by five days if a third-party provider is involved or until the investigation is completed if ordered by authorities.

During the investigation, the players’ accounts were reinstated, and their winnings were transferred to them.
