The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has been granted increased authority to address problematic operators under the updated Gambling Act.
Effective from July 1, the new legislation enhances Spillemyndigheden’s capacity to enforce stricter gambling controls. These enhanced regulatory powers include ‘enhanced sanction options’ that enable the authority to issue orders with specific directives that operators must integrate into their operations. Non-compliance with these directives or deadlines may result in sanctions, police reports, or, in severe cases, license revocation.
Additionally, Spillemyndigheden now has expanded data processing capabilities, allowing for more comprehensive analysis of gambling data and improved targeted risk and issue management within the sector.
These new measures reflect Denmark‘s commitment to implementing tighter controls in the gambling industry, preceding the introduction of a dual licensing system for operators and suppliers set to commence in September.
“The updated certification program clearly delineates the responsibilities of operators and gaming suppliers,” the regulator stated.
Last month, Spillemyndigheden also revised its AML policy to enhance sector protection against money laundering and terrorist financing threats.
