OpenBet handled over 140 million bets across all channels during the 2024 European Football Championship.
The tournament experienced a significant rise in betting activity throughout all stages, culminating in Spain’s victory over England to secure their fourth European title. Total bets exceeded £850 million during the Euros.
Additional data from OpenBet reveals that England and Spain were the most backed teams in the winners’ market throughout most of the knockout stages. However, Austria emerged as a surprise favorite, significantly shortening their odds from 40-1 to 16-1 after defeating the Netherlands and topping Group D.
On June 25 and 26, Austria accounted for over 20% of the bets on the outright winner—a milestone England only reached in the semifinals. The final match alone attracted over £73 million in bets, with OpenBet providing odds generation, content, and managed trading services, including risk and liability management for operators.
Additionally, the number of bet slips generated globally for BetBuilder SportCast increased by 470% compared to the 2021 tournament.
