KSA Cracks Down on Influencers for Unlicensed Gambling Advertisements

The Netherlands’ Gambling Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has removed a YouTube video due to its alleged promotion of an illegal gambling site.

The video, created by two Dutch influencers, promoted an unlicensed gambling website, which they admitted to using, directly violating KSA regulations.

In an initial attempt to comply, the influencers blurred out images of the gambling site’s promotion in the video, but the audio that endorsed the website remained.

Following a second warning from the KSA, the influencers were instructed to remove the video from YouTube, which they did. If a similar violation occurs in the future, the regulator may impose a financial penalty.

The crackdown on illegal gambling promotions has intensified in recent months. A notable example includes the KSA’s order for Formula One to remove all Stake.com branding before the Dutch Grand Prix.

Media outlets have also been reminded that even unintentional promotion of unlicensed gambling could result in sanctions. Media companies are responsible for ensuring that any gambling content they advertise is legally permitted in the Dutch market.
