Thailand’s Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat has said the mega entertainment complex and casino will proceed.
Thai media quoted him as saying after a public hearing in which 80 percent of participants supported the plan.
The government’s proposed casino and entertainment complex was also raised during public consultations on the “Casino Bill” released in August.
The complex is expected to attract Thai gamblers, which would account for 90% of the expected customers. The project is expected to lift tourism revenue by around TBH 12bn ($340m).
Plans to legalize casinos and gambling in Thailand were developed with the support of former Prime Minister Thavasin in its implementation. After that, the current government continued to work on the project with the apparent support of the current prime minister’s father.
As for the said mega-entertainment project with casinos, the rules of its operation include:
- An initial license for 30 years, for which casinos must renew the permit every 10 years
- The license fee is TBH 5bn ($140 млн) per license, with an annual fee of TBH 1bn ( ($28 млн)
- Valid license is obtained from the Entertainment Complex Policy Committee
- 17% tax on gaming revenue Casino
- entrance fee for Thai citizens will not exceed TBH 5,000 ($149) per person
