Thailand Is Preparing to Discuss the Legalization of Online Gambling

Thailand plans to begin discussions on the potential legalization of online gambling.

According to regional sources, Deputy Prime Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong stated that the government is preparing for preliminary discussions on this matter.

In addition to these discussions, an official study on the online gambling sector is expected to be completed in the coming months. Prasert also called on Government agencies to unite their efforts for collaborative work on this issue.

The main reason behind these initiatives is the economic benefits that the legalization of online gambling could bring. Furthermore, legalization would help combat illegal activities in this field, which in turn would reduce criminal behavior.

At the initial stage of discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Prasert stated that the issue of setting an age limit for online gambling has not yet been considered.

This news was published following Thailand’s proposal in August of a bill aimed at legalizing land-based casinos.

In other news from Asia, Japan has seen a significant rise in cases of gambling addiction linked to online casinos, with consultation requests increasing 11-fold over the past five years.
