Controversies at Botafogo
At the beginning of last year, before a hearing with the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry CPI) of the Brazilian Senate, Owner of the club, John Textor, declared that he had evidence of match-fixing during Serie A matches in Brazil.
“This is a very important day for me and I hope it is also important for Brazilian football. It is a sport that we all love,” Textor began his statement, which was made in English. He then thanked the Senate for receiving him and for the “courage” of investigating the issue.
“Match-fixing happens just as much as doping. Nobody wants to believe it until we realise that this can happen anywhere,” he said, revealing that thanks to the technology used by the company Good Game! – hired by the club to analyse the matches – he has detected suspicions on certain occasions.
It is hoped that with the work of the ICC and the transparent alliances between clubs and companies authorised to operate in Brazil, this situation that harms both sport and the betting entertainment industry will be reversed.
