Sweden Tightens Control over Spribe’s License

Spribe has been named as one of three suppliers whose activities have drawn increased attention from the Swedish regulator.

According to Spelinspektionen, a supervisory procedure has been initiated regarding Spribe OÜ, Epic88 Ltd, and Gamomat Distribution GmbH to assess their compliance with rules governing the creation, provision, deployment, and modification of gaming software for unlicensed operators.

Such activities are considered a violation of the provisions set out in Chapter 11, Section 6e of Sweden’s Gambling Act.

Apart from Sweden, Spribe holds licenses in Malta, Gibraltar, the Netherlands, Ontario, as well as in several other jurisdictions across Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

“Technical Licensing Gap”

The situation adds to Spribe’s recent difficulties in the United Kingdom: in October, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) suspended the company’s license, citing the absence of the required permission to host the services it was providing.

Spribe, however, has held a UK remote gambling software license continuously since 2020.

Nevertheless, UKGC’s investigation found that the company had been hosting casino games for operators without the appropriate remote casino game host license.

In response to the regulator’s actions, Spribe acknowledged its position, noting that the issue is related to a “technical licensing gap” that was not recognized during the original 2020 application.

The company stated: “Spribe applied for and was given a remote gambling software licence in 2020. However, our business model also requires a remote casino game host licence. That is a technical licensing issue that was not recognised in the original application process in 2020.”

The company also confirmed that it is preparing a license variation to include the necessary permissions for remote casino game hosting and is working urgently to ensure full technical and legal compliance.
