Velipekka Nummikoski to Step Down as Veikkaus Deputy CEO

Velipekka Nummikoski is leaving Veikkaus after 14 years with the company. During this time, he held senior management positions both before and after the major merger that created the current structure of Finland’s state-owned gambling operator.

Nummikoski joined RAY in 2012, becoming CEO of the Finnish Slot Machine Association. In 2017, he moved to Veikkaus as Deputy CEO, where he was responsible for public relations, responsibility and communications.

In recent years, Nummikoski worked on various projects alongside CEO Olli Sarekoski. Sarekoski succeeded Veikkaus’ previous CEO and took over the company during the latest stage of changes to its leadership.

Nummikoski’s professional career coincided with a period of major changes in Finland’s gambling industry. According to Nummikoski, when he began working at RAY in 2012, digitalisation was already gradually transforming the market and the way operators conducted their business.

One of the key developments during this period was the merger of three companies, which resulted in the creation of Veikkaus. The company subsequently began preparing for Finland’s transition towards a more competitive gambling market.

Veikkaus CEO Olli Sarekoski praised Nummikoski’s contribution to the company’s development.

Velipekka Nummikoski has had a long and distinguished career at Veikkaus and has held several demanding management positions. I would like to warmly thank him for his significant work for the company,” Sarekoski said.

“I appreciate his extensive experience and his contribution, especially in the development of public relations, responsibility and communications. I wish him the best of luck in the future,” Sarekoski added.

Velipekka Nummikoski commented: “I started as RAY’s CEO in 2012 at a time when digitalisation was starting to change the gambling industry. I had the opportunity to be involved in the merger of three companies into a new Veikkaus and on the way to a competitive market. It has been a great privilege to work in the midst of this transformation. Next year, Veikkaus will move into a new era, and at the same time, it will also be my turn to head towards new challenges. A warm thank you to all Veikkaus employees for the years together,”

In his statement, Nummikoski links his departure to Veikkaus’ next stage of development, viewing it as part of the broader transformation of Finland’s state-owned gambling operator.
