The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) has become the victim of unauthorised access to its online gaming portal, the regulator disclosed on Friday, 18 September.
According to CGA, the breach was contained, and the mystery source of the access was identified.
In the release, the CGA said: “Upon detection of the incident, the CGA and its service provider immediately activated their incident response procedures, and its provider commenced a forensic investigation to determine what happened.
“While the unauthorised access has been contained, the investigation remains ongoing and has not yet established the full scope of the incident.
“The CGA is currently assessing whether and which information was accessed, as well as the potential consequences arising from such access.”
The CGA said its investigation has not identified any compromise of its core technical infrastructure, but warned that the nature of the information it holds makes it premature to draw conclusions about the incident’s overall impact.
As a result, it outlined that it is treating the investigation with utmost seriousness and has implemented additional monitoring and security measures as a precaution while investigations continue.
The regulator added: “The Authority is working to establish all relevant facts and will take any further action that may be warranted based on the findings of the investigation.
“Where the investigation determines that information relating to individuals, applicants, licensees, or other stakeholders may have been affected, those parties will be notified directly and in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
“The CGA recognises the concern that this incident may cause and remains committed to transparency throughout this process. Further updates will be provided as appropriate as additional facts are established.
“As the matter remains subject to investigation and engagement with the relevant authorities, no further details can be disclosed at this time,” it added.
The Malta Gaming Authority was hacked in March of this year.
