Mike Tyson Sued for £1.59m Over Jake Paul Fight

The British company Medier, which promotes the online casino and betting platform Rabona, has filed a lawsuit against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. The lawsuit concerns his recent fight with blogger-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

In October 2024, a claim of £1.59 million ($2,029,000) was filed, alleging that Mike Tyson breached a contract related to the promotion of a gambling brand.

Medier accused Tyson and his company, Tyrannic, of terminating a partnership agreement signed in January 2024.

As per the contract, Tyson was required to serve as a brand ambassador for Rabona, engaging in promotional activities and events to boost its visibility.

Medier claims the agreement was unlawfully terminated in March 2024, shortly after Tyson announced his participation in the fight with Jake Paul.

According to documents filed in the High Court of London, Medier states that the company suffered significant financial losses due to Tyson’s termination of the partnership.

Tyson Team’s Response

Medier’s lawyers claim that the contract breach occurred due to Tyson’s fight with Paul.

The attorneys argue that the termination of the agreement was linked to Tyson’s decision to participate in this high-profile match and his cessation of collaboration shortly after signing a contract with Netflix.

In a separate statement, Tyson’s representatives asserted that Medier had failed to meet its obligations under the agreement. They argue that the company repeatedly violated the terms of the contract, which led to Tyrannic’s decision to terminate the partnership.

According to Tyson’s team, this decision was made to protect Tyson’s brand from further reputational damage and was within their legal rights.

In a response sent to the New York Post, they stated: “It is the company’s position that Medier, Ltd. materially breached the terms of its license agreement on multiple occasions and in various ways.

“As such, Tyrannic, LLC was well within its legal and contractual rights to terminate the license agreement for material breach in an effort to mitigate additional reputational harm to the Tyson brand.”

Tyson’s Defeat in the Fight with Jake Paul

After several delays, the long-awaited fight between Tyson and Paul took place on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The fight, which attracted millions of viewers, was broadcast worldwide on Netflix, leading to a lawsuit due to technical issues.

Despite his legendary boxing career, 58-year-old Tyson lost to 27-year-old Paul by unanimous decision. The judges’ scorecards after eight rounds were 80–72, 79–73, and 79–73 in favor of Paul.

During the fight, Tyson showed a slower pace and landed fewer punches than expected. According to statistics, Tyson landed only 18 out of 97 punches, while Paul landed 78 out of 278.

The fight attracted significant media attention and sparked divided opinions among fans: some praised Paul’s performance, while others expressed disappointment with the quality of the match.

DraftKings reported that Paul earned $40 million from the fight, while Tyson received only half of that amount.
