SBC has announced a series of promotions in its media division, facilitating a new structure that will allow SBC Media to enhance its coverage of the B2B gaming industries and continue its expansion across multiple platforms.
Jessica Welman has been promoted to the newly created position of Managing Editor, and will now oversee SBC Media’s editorial output across its entire network of news portals. Welman has led SBC Media’s North-American facing news sites to record-breaking success since joining the company in 2022, vastly increasing readership, and establishing both SBC Americas and Canadian Gaming Business as leading sources of authoritative coverage in their respective markets.
Alongside her new position, where she will oversee SBC’s other sites including SBC News, SBC Noticias, iGaming Expert and Lottery Daily, Welman will retain her leadership over SBC Americas and Canadian Gaming Business.
Welman said of the new position “I’m extremely excited to become the Managing Editor, and use the skills and knowledge I’ve applied to our North American sites to achieve similar success with the rest of the portfolio. I’m a strong believer in the quality that our sites provide, and I’ll work passionately on helping the individual site editors on refining the strong industry voices associated with each brand.”
The commercial arm of SBC’s Media division has also undergone a reshuffle, headlined by the promotion of Martyn Elliott to the position of Media Director. After six years at SBC, Elliott brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked on the events side of the business, as well as a Senior Media Manager where he collaborated closely with SBC Media’s clients.
Elliott said he is pleased at the opportunity: “I’m looking forward to working with our outstanding media delivery team to continue to offer outstanding service to all our clients. In addition to our successful online and print editorial, advertising and multimedia solutions, the team is excited to be developing a number of new products that will allow us to deliver even better results for our partners.”
Elsewhere, in another newly created position, Ted Menmuir has been promoted to Editor-at-Large, stepping back from day-to-day editorship of SBC News for the first time since 2013. Menmuir will now take on a broader scope, contributing his expertise and high-level analysis across the SBC Media network, and taking on a greater role away from written news, including with the SBC Leaders Magazine and the iGaming Daily podcast.
Menmuir remarked: “I can’t wait to take on my new role, and add my contributions to the full SBC Media portfolio. After such a long tenure with SBC News, I’m thrilled to add input and analysis across the industry on SBC Media’s range of news portals, and work with more of my colleagues across the teams, helping develop the younger editors and writers skills.”
Taking Menmuir’s newly vacated role at the helm of SBC Media’s heritage news portal SBC News, is Ted Orme-Claye, who returns to SBC’s home of European sports betting coverage, where he previously served as a Senior Journalist until December 2023.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to go back to the site where I first started in SBC. I can’t wait to get my teeth back into the betting side of the industry, enhancing it with the experience I’ve gained in editorship working on both Payment Expert and Insider Sport. I’m confident that I can continue Ted’s great work and grow SBC News as the authoritative voice of the sports betting industry.” Orme-Claye added.
Discussing the new structure, SBC Managing Director Andrew McCarron commented: “These changes will allow SBC Media to take our brands into the future. I have no doubt Martyn, Jessica and our Commercial Director John Cook will set the highest standards for the business.
“It’s also great to see Ted Menmuir take to this new role as he is one of our longest-tenured experts and capable of huge contributions across the network. Ted and I launched SBC News together back in 2014 and that was the first step in the huge media business we have today, with the 13 news websites covering developments from around the world.”
