{"id":10006,"date":"2025-07-03T12:41:43","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T11:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=10006"},"modified":"2025-07-03T12:41:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T11:41:47","slug":"dutch-regulator-issues-warning-to-unibet-over-autoplay-and-advertising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/07\/03\/dutch-regulator-issues-warning-to-unibet-over-autoplay-and-advertising\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch Regulator Issues Warning to Unibet Over Autoplay and Advertising"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Unibet<\/strong> received two warnings from the <strong>Netherland\u2019s gambling authority (KSA)<\/strong> , the first of which concerned a violation of the strict advertising regulations in force in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registered in the Netherlands as <strong>Optdeck<\/strong>, Unibet\u2019s first breach related to untargeted advertising, a practice which has been barred in the Netherlands since 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the operator\u2019s partnership with the Unibet<strong> Tietema Rockets<\/strong> cycling team is to have its logo placed on the bus which transports the squad. However, the branded vehicle was used elsewhere \u2013 violating the conditions of the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The KSA said in a statement: \u201cThe cycling team has been asked to stop using the bus immediately, and the bus and team vehicles will be provided with modified stickers without the Unibet logo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe KSA has indicated that it is always the provider\u2019s responsibility to guarantee that sponsorship agreements comply with the laws and regulations. Furthermore, from July 1, 2025, this bus in its current form will no longer be allowed on the roads, as the ban on sports sponsorship will come into effect from that date.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondly, Unibet also received a warning for the use of autoplay on its BonusBuy function, which is strictly prohibited for online games of chance offered to Dutch players. The feature allowed players to automatically continue playing with purchased bonuses without having to start a new game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optdeck argued that monitoring several sponsorship agreements can be a complex matter, and also claimed to be unaware that the bus was being used for other transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The KSA concluded that \u201cbecause both violations were stopped immediately as soon as they were noticed, the KSA will leave it at a warning for now,\u201d but asserted that If Optdeck makes another mistake in the future, stricter sanctions will be imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cutting player losses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was only July 2023 that the Dutch government banned untargeted advertising for online gambling, which included TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, billboards and public spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only exception for the industry was through targeted advertising such as banner ads, social media, on\u2011demand TV, but only under very strict conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This came as part of a nation-wide attempt to minimise gambling harm. The following year, the KSA also introduced mandatory deposit limits and affordability checks. From this, data showed that accounts losing more than \u20ac1,000 ($1080) per month dropped from 4% to around 1.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two years after the advertising ban, the issue of player protection remains at the forefront of public and political debate.
