{"id":10984,"date":"2025-10-03T09:08:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T08:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=10984"},"modified":"2025-10-03T09:08:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T08:08:16","slug":"egba-endorses-the-latest-eu-initiatives-to-reduce-gambling-harm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/10\/03\/egba-endorses-the-latest-eu-initiatives-to-reduce-gambling-harm\/","title":{"rendered":"EGBA Endorses the Latest EU Initiatives to Reduce Gambling Harm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA)<\/strong> has expressed delight from the recent EU vote in favour of a national standardisation for markers of harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a voting session hosted by the <strong>European Committee for Standardisation<\/strong> <strong>(CEN)<\/strong>, a majority of national standardisation bodies agreed that such a measure is necessary to further protect the EU population from gambling harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that EGBA has been pushing for such a standardisation for a number of years now, the organisation was quick to congratulate all voting parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe positive outcome of this vote is a real testament to the power of collaboration across our sector,\u201d said <strong>Maarten Haijer,<\/strong> Secretary General of EGBA. \u201cWhen EGBA first proposed this initiative to CEN, we envisioned creating a commonly agreed standard that would benefit players across Europe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re delighted with the support the standard has received, and I want to personally thank all the stakeholders who participated in this process. The result shows what happens when we work together to strengthen player protection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gratitude on behalf of EGBA was specifically extended to <strong>Dr Maris Catania<\/strong>, Standartisation Project Lead, and the French standards body <strong>AFNOR<\/strong> for its role of coordinating the project with CEN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter years of driving this project, through its conception and development, seeing the overwhelming support it has received is incredibly rewarding,\u201d said <strong>Vasiliki Panousi,<\/strong> Senior Manager of EU Affairs at EGBA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis will be the first commonly agreed European standard for identifying risky gambling behaviours and it will offer an essential building block for effective harm prevention in Europe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe cooperation to develop the standard was extremely valuable, bringing together diverse expertise from across the continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voting closed on 25 September, with the formal finalisation process now underway at CEN.
