At the company\u2019s <strong>annual general meeting<\/strong>, <strong>96% voted in favour<\/strong> of his <strong>long-term share options<\/strong>, while <strong>99% approved the remuneration report<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASA had warned of \u201cpotentially excessive payouts\u201d if McLachlan met his performance targets by <strong>2027<\/strong>, estimating that the CEO could earn up to <strong>AUD 16\u201318 million (\u20ac9\u201311 million)<\/strong> in <strong>c<\/strong>ash and vested options should pre-tax earnings increase by <strong>10%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tabcorp Chairman, <strong>Brett Chenoweth<\/strong>, dismissed the criticism, stating that McLachlan\u2019s remuneration reflects the board\u2019s confidence in his leadership and the executive team\u2019s ability to deliver long-term value for shareholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGillon has brought a new energy, sharper focus, and real clarity of purpose to Tabcorp,\u201d Chenoweth said. \u201cThe business is now back on track, shifting from a period of rebuilding to one of strategic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under McLachlan\u2019s first year of leadership, Tabcorp reported a strong financial performance &#8211; with group revenue <strong>up 11.8% to AUD $2.6bn (\u20ac1.55bn)<\/strong> and net profit after tax climbing <strong>76.8% to AUD $49.5m (\u20ac29.5m)<\/strong> in FY2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further results saw McLachlan underline that Tabcorp had achieved operating savings of <strong>AUD $31m (\u20ac18.5m) <\/strong>and a debt reduction of approximately <strong>AUD $250m (\u20ac150m)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts continue to monitor Tabcorp\u2019s performance closely, assessing how Gillon McLachlan\u2019s turnaround strategy will reshape a business that recorded two consecutive years of losses exceeding <strong>AUD $600m (\u20ac355m) <\/strong>prior to his appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once dubbed the \u201csick man of the ASX,\u201d Tabcorp failed to deliver strategic or shareholder value following its much-touted merger with Tatts Group in 2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was widely anticipated that the merger would create a dominant Australian wagering and lottery powerhouse. However the merger was soon split in 2022, as investors acknowledged that it had failed to deliver any value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tabcorp presented its first full-year results under McLachlan\u2019s leadership in August, during which the CEO outlined his \u201crelentless ambitions\u201d to restore the company as Australia\u2019s highest-valued gambling business, signalling a more disciplined focus on profitability, digital growth, and retail renewal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are a fitter, leaner organisation with clear accountability and stronger execution,\u201d he told analysts, in what was described as a coach-like team talk to investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry observers note that McLachlan\u2019s leadership style reflects his AFL background &#8211; driven by structure, motivation, and performance culture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under his direction, Tabcorp has prioritised a \u201cback-to-basics\u201d approach aimed at rebuilding consumer trust, cutting legacy costs, and competing more effectively with global digital betting groups that have eroded its market share in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, shareholders appear satisfied.
