{"id":11776,"date":"2025-12-12T12:14:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=11776"},"modified":"2025-12-12T12:14:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:14:13","slug":"new-developments-in-the-scandal-involving-the-disqualified-isle-of-man-executive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/12\/12\/new-developments-in-the-scandal-involving-the-disqualified-isle-of-man-executive\/","title":{"rendered":"New Developments in the Scandal Involving the Disqualified Isle of Man Executive"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An executive in the online gaming sector, who was previously banned from entering the Isle of Man, is seeking to have the decision overturned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phua Cheng Wan<\/strong>, the owner of <strong>Boldwood Software<\/strong>, remains under an indefinite ban imposed by the Isle of Man\u2019s <strong>Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC) <\/strong>in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a review, the regulator concluded that Wan had connections with \u201cbad actors\u201d and deemed him unsuitable to hold a licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, his representatives claim that new information has come to light, and he is now seeking to overturn the decision and set aside the settlement agreement he signed at the time the ban was imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singaporean media previously linked Wan to a group whose members were convicted of money laundering and running an illegal gambling network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2024, charges were filed against Cypriot national <strong>Wang Dehai<\/strong>, alleging that Wan had applied for employment passes on Dehai\u2019s behalf through his company <strong>Craft Digital.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note, however, that while the GSC\u2019s investigation found \u201cevidence of association with criminal elements,\u201d Wan himself has never been convicted or held legally responsible for any offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His company, a platform provider for the online gaming industry, was licensed in the Isle of Man from November 2022 until May of this year, when it surrendered its licence after the GSC issued a notice and an enforcement report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Limited Interest in Southeast Asian Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Isle of Man has repeatedly warned about potential risks when working with companies or owners connected to East and Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <strong>National Risk Appetite Statement <\/strong>published by <strong>Digital Isle of Man<\/strong>, the island has a \u201climited appetite\u201d for online gaming companies from the region due to the threat of \u201ccriminal infiltration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report notes: \u201cThe Isle of Man recognises that, in common with other jurisdictions, its online gaming and gambling platforms may be targeted by an evolving and increasingly complex and sophisticated criminal landscape in East and Southeast Asia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat landscape has extended outside of East and Southeast Asia, impacting countries worldwide, and there has become a need for increasing vigilance when conducting business linked to this region.
