{"id":11951,"date":"2026-01-08T12:03:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T12:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=11951"},"modified":"2026-01-08T12:03:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T12:03:22","slug":"banijay-sells-its-entire-stake-in-bet-at-home-to-fund-tipicos-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/01\/08\/banijay-sells-its-entire-stake-in-bet-at-home-to-fund-tipicos-expansion\/","title":{"rendered":"Banijay Sells Its Entire Stake in bet-at-home to Fund Tipico\u2019s Expansion\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Banijay Group<\/strong> has completed the sale of its majority stake in <strong>bet-at-home AG<\/strong>, as the Amsterdam <strong>EuroNext Plc<\/strong> sharpens focus on the development of its new <strong>Banijay Gaming<\/strong> unit formed by the merger of <strong>Betclic<\/strong> and <strong>TipicoSportwetten<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 2 January, Banijay informed markets that it had finalised the divestment of its 53.9% controlling stake in bet-at-home AG, closing a chapter that began in 2009, when the stake was first acquired by <strong>Everest Gaming<\/strong>, the former subsidiary of Banijay Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sale completes a key condition of Banijay\u2019s landmark October 2025 transaction with CVC Capital Partners, under which Banijay acquired a 65% majority stake in Tipico Group via an initial \u20ac3bn ($3.5bn) in cash reward.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal saw Banijay take control of the German market\u2019s largest gambling brand, Tipico, valued at \u20ac4.6bn($5.4bn), which will be merged with France\u2019s Betclic sportsbook (valued at around \u20ac4.8bn ($5.6bn) to form a new European igaming powerhouse under the Banijay Gaming banner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ending its investment in bet-at-home, Banijay Gaming will maintain a presence in the German market through Tipico\u2019s extensive retail and online networks, while continuing to leverage Betclic\u2019s dominant position across France and Southern Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new Banijay Gaming unit is expected to formally launch in the second half of 2026, pending the final regulatory approvals in France and Germany. Both country\u2019s national gambling authorities are assessing the merger\u2019s implications on market competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Banijay\u2019s investment in bet-at-home had been under review since 2022, following the public listing of <strong>FL Entertainment<\/strong>, Banijay\u2019s former corporate parent. At that time, analysts widely described bet-at-home as a non-core, low-growth asset within Banijay\u2019s expanding entertainment and gaming ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bet-at-home has faced mounting challenges following severe regulatory tightening in Germany and its forced exit from Austria, which have curtailed growth prospects and customer activity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has reported consecutive operating losses in 2023 (\u20ac-2.2m\/$-2.6m) and 2024 (\u20ac-4.5m\/$-5.3m), with stagnant income and EBITDA despite restructuring measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following completion, Banijay CEO <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Riahim<\/strong> and Betclic CFO <strong>V\u00e9ronique Giraudon <\/strong>resigned from bet-at-home\u2019s supervisory board, concluding the group\u2019s governance involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Banijay has confirmed that its strategic focus in 2026 will centre on scaling Banijay Gaming across Europe, integrating the combined Betclic\u2013Tipico platforms with its media, sports, and entertainment assets to build a unified gaming ecosystem spanning regulated markets in Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram channel!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Banijay Group has completed the sale of its majority stake in bet-at-home AG, as the Amsterdam EuroNext Plc sharpens focus on the development of its new Banijay Gaming unit formed by the merger of Betclic and TipicoSportwetten.
