The company undertook the takeover to hugely expand its global reach in sports media and across iGaming audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The markets did not share the same enthusiasm for the takeover, however. Genius\u2019 share price dropped 27% in the aftermath, costing the company between $600m and $ 700 m in corporate value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s share price has seen some rebounds since then, but it remains far below where it was at the start of 2026. In early April, its market cap fell below the value of the Legend acquisition, and as of 1 May, it stands at $1.12bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genius\u2019 Chief Executive Officer, <strong>Mark Locke,<\/strong> along with many other analysts, argued that the lack of confidence in the Legend M&amp;A stemmed from a fundamental misunderstanding of the firm\u2019s new asset and the benefits it brings to Genius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe market\u2019s reaction to our acquisition of Legend has been divided,\u201d Locke said in late February. \u201cThat has happened before when we made transformative deals. Much of the criticism has relied on a reductive use of the word \u201caffiliate\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe term has been applied as shorthand, without distinguishing between low-quality traffic brokers and technology platforms built on owned audiences and behavioral intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Genius now has a chance to prove its mettle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the acquisition complete, the moment of truth is now here. As analysts like <strong>Bernie McTernan<\/strong> of <strong>Needham <\/strong>and <strong>Jordan Bender<\/strong> of <strong>Citizens<\/strong> told<em> SBC News<\/em>, Genius can only regain confidence by proving why and how the Legend acquisition is the right move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Bender\u2019s case, the analyst cited a source in the affiliate space who described Legend as \u2018the real deal\u2019 and \u2018one of the greatest affiliate businesses in history\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genius clearly thinks the same way. The company expects the integration of Legend to help drive $1bn in revenue by the end of 2026, and with the acquisition complete, it moves on to execution \u2013 the true test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company remains adamant that the acquisition will be \u2018immediately accretive\u2019 to its adjusted EBITDA margins and to free cash flow conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also highlighted the 320 million annual visits from 118 million unique visitors, with Legend secured in 2025 across its portfolio, which includes <strong>Covers.com, Casino.org, <\/strong>and <strong>Casino Guru.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the M&amp;A completion, Locke remarked: \u201cGenius Sports has spent years building the data infrastructure behind modern sport.
