The proposals follow criticism from domestic opposition groups and European Union institutions over media concentration and political influence during the <strong>Fidesz <\/strong>government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public broadcaster MTVA and state-aligned media groups have faced repeated accusations from watchdog organisations over editorial independence. The criticism has also covered alleged market distortion linked to state advertising allocations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarr said public media credibility needed to be restored and pledged to review funding structures, including the National Cultural Fund.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>State Lottery Scrutiny Widens<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newly appointed Finance Minister <strong>Andr\u00e1s K\u00e1rm\u00e1n<\/strong> said sectoral special taxes would be phased out gradually, including levies affecting the advertising and media industries. The Hungarian Advertising Association has renewed calls for the permanent abolition of the advertising tax after its current 0% rate was extended temporarily.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K\u00e1rm\u00e1n also said the simplified <strong>kata<\/strong> taxation system would return after earlier restrictions affected freelancers and small businesses in the media sector. The tax proposals place media financing, small business rules and state revenue policy within the same reform agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearings also covered Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt., Hungary\u2019s state-owned lottery operator. K\u00e1rm\u00e1n accused the company of using revenues for political messaging instead of transferring profits to the state treasury and promised more transparent oversight of state-owned enterprises.
