{"id":13153,"date":"2026-06-05T12:05:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=13153"},"modified":"2026-06-05T12:05:45","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:05:45","slug":"veikkaus-introduces-age-based-loss-limits-to-strengthen-player-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/06\/05\/veikkaus-introduces-age-based-loss-limits-to-strengthen-player-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Veikkaus Introduces Age-Based Loss Limits to Strengthen Player Protection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Finland\u2019s state operator <strong>Veikkaus<\/strong> will roll out a new set of individualised safer gambling tools correlating to the harm risk of every major player age group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move comes ahead of the rollout of an open betting market in Finland next July. <span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">The other major stakeholder in the current system, the Aland Islands\u2019\u00a0<strong>Paf<\/strong>, has taken similar me<\/span>asures as the duo prepares for the liberalization of Finland\u2019s gambling market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 9 June, Veikkaus customers will have their profiles fitted with a new notification system that tracks their losses and informs them when they approach a certain amount.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The update will move away from the standard \u20ac24,000 ($26 000) annual loss limit that is currently in place for all players, and will instead introduce periodical alerts sent out when a certain amount is reached based on a player\u2019s age \u2014 with the fastest loss triggers rolled out for the youngest legal gamblers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Risk lowers as age rises for Veikkaus players<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those aged 18 and 19 will be preemptively alerted when they are close to accumulating \u20ac4,000 ($4 300) in losses, with their annual loss limit set at \u20ac8,000 ($8 600).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Players aged 20-24 will be contacted when they are near the \u20ac8,000 ($8 600) loss mark, and will have an annual loss limit of \u20ac24,000 ($26 000). Everyone aged 25 or above will be alerted when close to \u20ac24,000 ($26 000) in losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Susanna Saikkonen<\/strong>, Director of Responsibility at Veikkaus, said: \u201cLower loss limits are set for young customers because their financial situation and life situation are often still developing and the risks related to gambling can be greater.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLower limits are a preventive measure with which we want to support safe and controlled gambling and help young people monitor their own gambling and stop in time if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to identify harmful gaming better than before using real-time data and to offer customers proactive care communications.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When an individual approaches the alert threshold, they will be contacted by a member of Veikkaus\u2019 safer gambling team to discuss their situation. If appropriate, a higher threshold limit can be agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the discussion, the customer\u2019s situation is assessed according to a previously agreed operating model.
