{"id":13270,"date":"2026-06-18T09:40:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T08:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=13270"},"modified":"2026-06-18T09:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T08:40:57","slug":"eeg-eyes-finland-as-its-next-growth-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/06\/18\/eeg-eyes-finland-as-its-next-growth-driver\/","title":{"rendered":"EEG Eyes Finland as Its Next Growth Driver"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>European Entertainment Group (EEG) <\/strong>has shone a spotlight on Finland\u2019s inbound iGaming regime, citing the soon-to-be-liberalised market as a new catalyst to help revive its performance across the Nordics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The parent firm of <strong>ComeOn, Yggdrasil, Highlight Games<\/strong> and the affiliate network <strong>Game Lounge<\/strong>, EEG, reported softer trading across its portfolio as its management continued to reposition the business towards regulated markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revenue fell 7 % year-on-year to \u20ac81.9m in the first quarter, while EBITDA declined 23 % to \u20ac19.1m \u2013 corresponding to a weaker performance on lower contributions from its B2B assets \u2013 that are adjusting to softer margin effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjusted EBITDA slipped 12 % to \u20ac21.6m, and the group swung to a net loss of \u20ac21.1m, compared to a profit of \u20ac19.3m a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Group accounts detailed that net debt reached \u20ac550m \u2013 for EEG, a business that remains majority-owned by the LSE-listed private equity fund of <strong>Bridgepoint<\/strong>, the debt is somewhat surprising.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ComeOn growth engine&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EEG\u2019s B2C Online Gaming division, operated through ComeOn Group, maintained its growth and resilience despite changing market conditions across various gaming jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online Gaming revenue edged up 1% to \u20ac62.1m, while customer deposits increased 8% to \u20ac217m. Active customers rose 7% to more than 352,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ComeOn noted that underlying growth would have reached 7.4% had the impact of Germany\u2019s exit been excluded and the Netherlands business been fully consolidated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EEG formally completed its withdrawal from Germany during the quarter, after concluding that the market no longer offered an attractive long-term return profile. The business contributed around 1.8% of group revenues in 2025 but generated a negative cash contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>B2B slowdown<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The picture was less encouraging across EEG\u2019s B2B assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Game Lounge, the group\u2019s affiliate and media division, saw revenue fall by 48% to \u20ac7.1m as ongoing disruption from Google\u2019s search algorithm updates weighed heavily on traffic and customer acquisition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Management responded with a restructuring programme centred on cost reductions, AI-driven content production, CRM development and greater diversification of acquisition channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Game Development revenue declined 6% to \u20ac13.2m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the division, performance was mixed. Highlight Games delivered another strong quarter, with revenue rising 23% and Adjusted EBITDA increasing 27%. The virtual sports supplier strengthened its position in Italy, where it now commands a 62.5% market share, while securing new agreements with <strong>Stanleybet, Ladbrokes Coral and Superbet Brazil.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yggdrasil continued its strategic retreat from selected .com markets while investing in the rollout of its proprietary Game-in-a-Box platform. While the transition weighed on short-term revenues, management believes the move will improve scalability and support stronger margins over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Finland comes into play&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clearest positive for investors was EEG\u2019s progress in Finland, where the company submitted its licence application ahead of the market\u2019s planned opening on 1 July 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Executive <strong>Itai Frieberger<\/strong> described the quarter as a period of transition, with the group continuing to focus on improving the quality and sustainability of earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first quarter of 2026 represented a transitional period for the Group as we continued executing strategic initiatives to improve the long-term quality and resilience of earnings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frieberger added that Finland represents \u201ca substantial long-term growth opportunity\u201d for EEG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has operated in Finland for more than 15 years through a portfolio of established brands and believes the shift from monopoly control to a competitive licensing regime could create a market comparable in scale to its Swedish operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram channel<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>European Entertainment Group (EEG) has shone a spotlight on Finland\u2019s inbound iGaming regime, citing the soon-to-be-liberalised market as a new catalyst to help revive its performance across the Nordics.
