{"id":13430,"date":"2026-07-07T12:00:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=13430"},"modified":"2026-07-07T12:00:28","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:00:28","slug":"kazakhstan-strengthens-fight-against-illegal-online-gambling-via-financial-channels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/07\/07\/kazakhstan-strengthens-fight-against-illegal-online-gambling-via-financial-channels\/","title":{"rendered":"Kazakhstan Strengthens Fight Against Illegal Online Gambling via Financial Channels\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authorities in <strong>Kazakhstan<\/strong> have found significant success in targeting payment pathways to curtail illegal online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data released by <strong>Blask<\/strong>, second-tier banks in the country rejected over 400,000 transactions to 110 blacklisted companies and payment providers totalling $20.8m between October 2025 and March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, 11 financial institution employees have also been arrested on suspicion of facilitating operators circumventing restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These results signify a positive trajectory for Kazakhstan as the government continues to put a greater focus on black market activity in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside banks, the government has contacted the mobile operators <strong>Tele2, Beeline, Kcell and Activ<\/strong> to ensure payments are blocked in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, geoblocking has also taken place to further clamp down on unlicensed operators targeting citizens in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online casinos are explicitly prohibited in Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, online sports betting is only available through a small number of bookmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Economic boost from land-based reforms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though authorities in Kazakhstan are looking to get a grip on the online market, they are taking a different approach to land-based gaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local reports in May suggested that lawmakers are looking to boost the economy by expanding the number of gambling zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Largely focused on tourism-centric areas, the new zones are in four areas: Mangistau on the Caspian Sea coast; Panfilov district and Lake Alakol in Zhetysu; Talgar district in Almaty region; and the Markakol area plus Zaisan district in East Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also reported that alongside a myriad of social responsibility measures, the new zones will not be open to domestic residents, as the government continues to shield its citizens from the regulated gambling sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram channel<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities in Kazakhstan have found significant success in targeting payment pathways to curtail illegal online gambling.
