{"id":13722,"date":"2026-08-07T09:00:26","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T08:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=13722"},"modified":"2026-08-07T09:00:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T08:00:28","slug":"blackrocks-stake-in-entain-surpasses-5-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/08\/07\/blackrocks-stake-in-entain-surpasses-5-again\/","title":{"rendered":"BlackRock\u2019s Stake in Entain Surpasses 5% Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BlackRock<\/strong> has re-upped its control in <strong>Entain<\/strong>, crossing the 5% threshold once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US investment giant acquired another 0.95% of voting rights in the UK-based, <strong>LSE-listed<\/strong> gaming multinational yesterday, increasing its control to 5.01%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes despite the fact that it has been a troubling time for Entain, with tax increases in its home market and wider regulatory uncertainty across Europe contributing to growing losses and a reduction in its workforce and share price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company has now become the largest gambling operator listed on the LSE, however, following <strong>Flutter Entertainment\u2019s<\/strong> delisting at the end of July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also the only gambling company on the FTSE 100 index. Flutter was also a FTSE 100 firm for many years, but exited the index when it made New York its primary listing in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entain\u2019s market cap currently sits at \u00a33.55bn ($4,8bn), over \u00a32bn ($2,7bn) higher than its nearest LSE-listed industry counterpart, Playtech\u2019s value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, its stock has been continuously shrinking in the last five years, having dropped by over \u00a313.75 ($18,5) (71.3%) to \u00a35.54 ($7,45).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last 12 months have been an arduous period for many operators, particularly in Europe, due to stricter regulations and increasing tax rates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tax rise on <strong>Remote Gaming Duty (RGD)<\/strong> from 21% to 40% in the UK, announced in November by then-Chancellor of the Exchequer, <strong>Rachel Reeves<\/strong>, and implemented in April, was always going to negatively impact Entain\u2019s bottom line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firm has begun to implement cost-cutting measures, which include a recent announcement that it is set to cut around 500 of its workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it seems BlackRock is still holding out hope for Entain, though it does have a titanic portfolio, being the largest asset management firm in history with a record-breaking $15.3tn in assets under management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Does BlackRock see an opportunity in Entain?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes less than two months after the investment business sold off a portion of its Entain stock, a move that saw its control dip below the 5% mark.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entain\u2019s share price also took a hit relatively recently, following the release of <strong>BetMGM\u2019s<\/strong> Q2 results \u2014 an operator in which it holds a 50% stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BetMGM stated its net revenue and adjusted EBITDA are set to come in at the lower end of its respective $2.9-$3.1bn and $300-$350m guidance ranges, which did not fill Entain investors with confidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firm is set to release its Q2 results next week, and BlackRock may be looking to capitalise on a dip that could come before a potential share price increase as Entain reveals the impact of the early stages of the 2026 World Cup on its revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram channel!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BlackRock has re-upped its control in Entain, crossing the 5% threshold once again.
