Participating agencies will initially pitch for \u201ccover contracts\u201d that may be renewed on an annual basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt\u2019s long-term plan is to move to a trusted agency model based on new fixed contracts. The short-term placements are intended to establish the effectiveness of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt\u2019s new multi-agency structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agencies will be assessed against pre-defined professional criteria, with opportunities to ask questions related to Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt\u2019s operations and civic mandate as Hungary\u2019s largest donor to sporting, cultural and civic projects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accounts from 2025 detailed the company generating more than \u20ac3bn ($3.5bn) in annual revenue and contributing around \u20ac447m ($520m) in taxes and regulatory payments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hungary new FM keeps watch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The structure and operations of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt have come under the scrutiny of the new <strong>TISZA<\/strong> government, which has undertaken a sweeping restructuring of the operator\u2019s board and senior leadership following Prime Minister <strong>P\u00e9ter Magyar\u2019s<\/strong> landslide April election victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finance Minister, <strong>Andr\u00e1s K\u00e1rm\u00e1n<\/strong>, is currently undertaking a mandate to review all state-owned institutions, seeking to eliminate political influence, cronyism and preferential treatment associated with the former <strong>Fidesz<\/strong> government of <strong>Viktor Orb\u00e1n.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July, K\u00e1rm\u00e1n announced the appointment of Marcell Olajos as the new Chairman of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt, replacing <strong>Zolt\u00e1n Guller<\/strong>, a former senior tourism official under the Fidesz administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">K\u00e1rm\u00e1n subsequently removed all remaining board members of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt. The shake-up drew criticism from outgoing members, who accused the Finance Minister of engaging in the same politically motivated practices and cronyism that the new government had pledged to eradicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, K\u00e1rm\u00e1n maintained that the changes were necessary to enable a fair and transparent review of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt\u2019s governance and the distribution of gambling revenues, with particular scrutiny placed on how sponsorships, grants and public-interest funding were allocated during the Fidesz era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Suspicious minds surround ZRT funding&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governance review follows sustained scrutiny of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt\u2019s sponsorship and grant distribution under the former Fidesz government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hungarian media reported that significant sums of Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k Zrt funding were directed towards organisations, companies and individuals connected to Fidesz and the wider <strong>NER<\/strong> \u2014 the <strong>System of National Cooperation <\/strong>established under Orb\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 2024 N\u00e9pszava analysis reported that approximately HUF 9.2bn ($29.5m) of more than HUF 15bn ($48.1m) distributed between 2015-May 2024, around 61%, went to recipients it identified as having government, Fidesz or NER connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suspicions have also remained over Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k funding awarded to organisations linked to <strong>R\u00e1hel Orb\u00e1n,<\/strong> Viktor Orb\u00e1n\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particular scrutiny has centred on the <strong>Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation (Magyar Turisztikai Sz\u00f6vets\u00e9g Alap\u00edtv\u00e1ny)<\/strong>, an organisation associated with projects and networks involving R\u00e1hel Orb\u00e1n, which received substantial funding from Szerencsej\u00e1t\u00e9k-linked sponsorship programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under TISZA, the funding stream appears to have come to an abrupt halt following Hungary\u2019s April election.
