{"id":14340,"date":"2026-10-23T12:59:56","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T11:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=14340"},"modified":"2026-10-23T12:59:59","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T11:59:59","slug":"greece-opens-recruitment-for-new-enforcement-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2026\/10\/23\/greece-opens-recruitment-for-new-enforcement-unit\/","title":{"rendered":"Greece Opens Recruitment for New Enforcement Unit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Hellenic Gaming Commission (EEEP)<\/strong> has been granted a budget to initiate a recruitment drive to spearhead its new Inspection and Enforcement division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Greek gambling authority will begin recruitment for its 40 positions within its unit that will oversee the new enforcement of Greek laws against illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eligible applicants include permanent public employees and staff employed by qualifying public bodies or private-sector IT organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recruitment drive follows Greece\u2019s adoption in June of a strengthened framework against illegal gambling, led by Minister of National Economy and Finance <strong>Kyriakos Pierrakakis.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Greek treasury on watch&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reforms target a black market which, according to figures presented by Pierrakakis on 6 October, accounted for approximately \u20ac1.8bn in gambling activity during 2025, involving around 900,000 people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier ministry estimates, based on 2024 research, put illegal activity at \u20ac1.67bn and associated annual state revenue losses at approximately \u20ac500m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legislation strengthens criminal sanctions, providing for prison sentences of at least 10 years and financial penalties ranging from \u20ac50,000 to \u20ac700,000 for conducting illegal games of chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aggravated offences, including professional or commercial-scale operations, the involvement of minors and the reopening of premises following an enforcement closure, carry financial penalties of \u20ac100,000 to \u20ac800,000, alongside imprisonment of at least 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Central to implementation is the reinforcement of the EEEP\u2019s Inspection and Enforcement unit, which will be granted special investigative powers. These broaden the enforcement response beyond website blocking, supporting investigations into the people and networks behind illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pierrakakis has also highlighted the use of digital tools and artificial intelligence to map illegal networks, identify websites and trace promotional channels.
