A number of European regulators, including de Kansspelautoriteit<\/strong> (KSA<\/strong>) in the Netherlands, l’Autorit\u00e9 Nationale des Jeux<\/strong> (ANJ<\/strong>) in France, SZTFH<\/strong> in Hungary and Spelinspektionen<\/strong> in Sweden, have backed the Gaming Regulators European Forum <\/strong>(GREF<\/strong><\/a>) joint statement on illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of March, the organization released a statement, and a number of regulators expressed support for a call for joint action against illegal gambling operators. GREF, representing 36 European regulators, stated that regulators are committed to increasing cooperation to achieve effective implementation of national regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the European authorities said they are committed to providing a high level of consumer protection by promoting a safer gaming environment. The statement also stated that all members of the organization share common goals in this endeavor, especially in terms of protecting consumer rights and developing a fair gambling market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The joint statement says: \u00abIllegal gambling threatens the achievement of these objectives. First, consumers who access illegal gambling sites are particularly vulnerable, as they are exposed to many risks and have no legal protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abSecondly, development in the regulated sector is threatened by illegal sites that are not held to the same standards we expect of our licensed operators.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Regulators’ Group stated that the desired outcome of the Call to Action would be increased cooperation in the fight against illegal markets. This will manifest itself in regular meetings, exchange of information, warnings, experience, best practices and joint action against illegal web resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThis joint action will enable us to better identify and minimise illegal gambling activities, while acknowledging that each regulator remains free to define what amounts to illegal gambling and to use the enforcement tools provided by its own national regulatory framework,\u00bb read the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
