The Lex.uz<\/a> website published a decree by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev<\/strong>, according to which the National Agency for Prospective Projects<\/strong> (NAPP<\/strong>) of the republic received powers to control the activities of bookmakers and lottery operators in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the decree on protecting the rights of consumers of digital products and combating crimes through digital technologies, by the spring of 2024, a working group will be formed from the staff of the NAPP, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its task is to study the international experience of countries where sports betting is legal, including Georgia, Singapore, South Korea, Hungary and Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft regulation is expected to be completed by June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document also contains provisions prohibiting banks from making cross-border transfers of citizens to the accounts of platforms involved in gambling. Also, to prevent fraud, it is prescribed to entrust the Central Bank with the right to instruct commercial banks to temporarily block accounts that raise suspicions of illegal transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
