Svenska Spel <\/strong>has announced the closure of its Cosmopol casinos in Gothenburg and Malm\u00f6 by the end of this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the conclusion of union negotiations, the Swedish operator confirmed that the casinos will remain open until February 24, after which operations will cease. This decision will affect approximately 100 employees in Gothenburg and 80 in Malm\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Svenska Spel emphasized that the problem with the unprofitability of the Cosmopol casino has been going on for several years due to the growing popularity of online gambling, which leads to a decrease in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite measures taken to increase revenues and reduce costs, the operator made the final decision to close and dismantle the casinos in Gothenburg and Malm\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cosmopol Casino was established by the Swedish government in 1999 with the aim of providing land-based casino services and creating international casinos in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first Cosmopol casino, a wholly owned subsidiary of Svenska Spel, opened in Sundsvall in 2001 (closed in 2020), followed by Malm\u00f6 and Gothenburg in 2001 and 2002 respectively, and Stockholm in 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ola Enquist<\/strong>, CEO of Casino Cosmopol, commented: \u201cFor over 20 years, Casino Cosmopol has offered the citizens of Gothenburg and Malm\u00f6 an international casino experience, which is now unfortunately coming to an end. Until we close, my colleagues and I hope that our guests will want to visit us one last time so that together we can have a nice ending for the casino.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Svenska Spel will undergo a leadership change in June 2024: Anna Johnson<\/strong> will take over as CEO, replacing Patrick Hofbauer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
