{"id":4932,"date":"2024-03-12T15:59:20","date_gmt":"2024-03-12T15:59:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=4932"},"modified":"2024-03-12T15:59:24","modified_gmt":"2024-03-12T15:59:24","slug":"ksa-shows-dutch-football-club-yellow-card-over-indirect-gambling-advert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2024\/03\/12\/ksa-shows-dutch-football-club-yellow-card-over-indirect-gambling-advert\/","title":{"rendered":"KSA Shows Dutch Football Club Yellow Card Over Indirect Gambling Advert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An unnamed football club has been forced to cancel its plans for public advertising after it was deemed illegal by the Dutch Gaming Authority <strong>Kansspelautoriteit<\/strong> (KSA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the KSA, the plans featured an advert placed on a prominent city building depicting the team\u2019s captain as a tribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, celebrations were abruptly stopped after the authority informed the municipality and the football club in question that a preventive sanction will be imposed on the team if they go ahead with the placement of the ad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem arises from the club\u2019s sponsor, an igaming provider, whose logo is displayed vividly on the club\u2019s jersey. This, according to the regulator, will cause a violation of the country\u2019s <strong>gambling act<\/strong> as a form of untargeted advertising for online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the provider and the team have argued that the case falls into the \u2018sports sponsorship\u2019 category, where the sponsorship stays as a neutral mention in the background while the full focus is either on a player or their sportswear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The argument was unfortunately met with disagreement by the KSA, which clarified that the above practice is only viable when a player is presented in a professional setting performing his duties, such as a football player in a sponsored shirt pictured during a match.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the player is also well-known, the knockout punch would\u2019ve come from the fact that the advertisement goes against the ban of using role models for gambling advertisements as well.<br><br>\u201cAdvertising for online gambling in public space is prohibited, because with this form of advertising it is impossible to exclude vulnerable target groups, such as young adults,\u201d the KSA added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram-channel<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An unnamed football club has been forced to cancel its plans for public advertising after it was deemed illegal by the Dutch Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).
