{"id":6170,"date":"2024-07-09T10:24:07","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T09:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=6170"},"modified":"2024-07-09T10:24:12","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T09:24:12","slug":"evolution-confronts-strike-in-georgia-over-poor-working-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2024\/07\/09\/evolution-confronts-strike-in-georgia-over-poor-working-conditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Evolution Confronts Strike in Georgia Over Poor Working Conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Evolution Gaming<\/strong> faces scrutiny in <strong>Georgia <\/strong>related to the working environment of its office and live gaming studio in Tbilisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgian media reports that \u201cat least 5,000 employees\u201d of Evolution Georgia will go on strike from 12 July, demanding improved working conditions, labour rights and higher salaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognised as global gambling\u2019s highest-valued games developer, Stockholm-listed Evolution Gaming has been accused of maintaining \u201cunsafe and unsanitary workplace conditions, harassment by managers, and meagre pay\u201d for staff in Georgia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accusations were brought to light by <strong>Mautskebeli<\/strong>, a Georgian trade union news source that published screenshots and communications of company management involved in abuse, including \u201csexist, racist, and discriminatory remarks against employees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The damning content was followed by the publication of footage detailing the poor working and sanitary conditions of janitors at Evolution Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evolution has operated its live games studio in Tbilisi since 2018, launched as the tech group\u2019s third office in Europe supporting its operations in Latvia and Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, Evolution issued a response stating that \u201creports of employee dismissals are categorically unacceptable.\u201d An investigation has been launched by Evolution \u201cto get to the bottom of the problem and take appropriate actions and increase our efforts to make sure that all employees adhere to and respect our common values.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evolution is committed to the development of its Georgia office, which employs over 8,000 staff, with the company committed to investment in staff development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement acknowledged a commitment to abiding by Georgia\u2019s employment laws but noted the challenges of monitoring a workforce of over 8,000 employees. Evolution stated that it would address all instances of unacceptable behaviour promptly and swiftly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strike action will be led by <strong>Giorgi Diasamidze<\/strong>, chair of the LABOR union, who announced that up to 5,000 employees would initially join the strike.
