{"id":7457,"date":"2024-11-08T12:56:29","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T12:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=7457"},"modified":"2024-11-08T12:56:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T12:56:35","slug":"french-authorities-begin-meetings-with-gaming-industry-representatives-on-icasino-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2024\/11\/08\/french-authorities-begin-meetings-with-gaming-industry-representatives-on-icasino-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"French Authorities Begin Meetings with Gaming Industry Representatives on iCasino Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Wednesday, representatives of France&#8217;s gaming industry met with government officials to discuss potential steps to address the complex issue of online casino regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting followed two weeks of events during which the French government initially proposed an amendment to regulate online casinos in an open (competitive) environment, but later withdrew it under pressure from land-based casinos and over 100 mayors who opposed the proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue has raised concerns among the country&#8217;s land-based casinos, such as <strong>Partouche, Barri\u00e8re, <\/strong>and <strong>Circus<\/strong>, as well as their trade body, <strong>Casinos de France<\/strong>, and online operators, including <strong>Betclic, Winamax, <\/strong>and<strong> Unibet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government\u2019s amendment outlined an open and competitive market that operators of all types could work in as long as they meet compliance and licensing requirements, a scenario that is ideally suited to online operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Land-based casinos have always been against that model and have long called for CdF members to be <a href=\"https:\/\/gamingandco.substack.com\/i\/135306508\/france-targets-for-icasino-regulation\">allowed to operate digital casinos<\/a> during an initial exclusivity period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CdF VP and Partouche board member <strong>Fabrice Paire <\/strong>told French media recently that one of the reasons for this stance is that they don\u2019t want to repeat the mistake of the 2010 regulations of OSB and poker, which was to allow online operators who had been targeting France for many years to enter the market with huge databases that enabled them to build unassailable market shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find common ground and encourage resolution, one <a href=\"https:\/\/gamingandco.substack.com\/i\/150986699\/most-favoured-model\">model<\/a> that has been floated would see <strong>AFJEL (Association Fran\u00e7aise des Jeux et des Loisirs) <\/strong>members operate the digital offerings of land-based casinos.
