PokerStars <\/strong>has surrendered its Isle of Man gaming licence however it is business as usual for players and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission<\/strong>, the 2005 license held by parent company Rational Entertainment Enterprises<\/strong> expired on March 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, PokerStars<\/strong> confirmed that players and staff on the island would not be affected by the changes, and instead it was simply part of a \u201cstreamlining program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for Flutter Group<\/strong>, the owners of PokerStars, told the Isle of Man Today<\/strong>: \u201cAs part of an ongoing programme to optimise PokerStars\u2019 operating model, it has been decided that it no longer needs an Isle of Man B2B licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlayers will continue to play under the UK B2C licence as they do today and will not experience any changes. PokerStars has found the Isle of Man regulatory relationship constructive and mutually beneficial over the years.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PokerStars\u2019 headquarters have been situated on the Isle of Man since 2005 and it holds licences with a number of jurisdictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Isle of Man, with its established financial sector and links to the UK, is a frequent destination for operators seeking regulatory approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island’s Cabinet Office has previously urged residents of the region to be vigilant against the threat of Southeast Asian criminal gangs and called for increased due diligence when conducting business in the region due to its “complex and sophisticated criminal landscape”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island’s authorities are seeking to improve their defences against the threat through “significant and wide-ranging action”, including investment in law enforcement and investigation capabilities, as well as strengthening the island’s immigration system and processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jane Poole-Wilson<\/strong> MHK, Deputy Chief Minister and AML\/CFT Lead for the Isle of Man Government, commented: \u201cThe Isle of Man Government and the Island\u2019s authorities take the illicit actions by transnational organised criminals to exploit the Island\u2019s business environment and immigration security extremely seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese actions aim to ensure that any vulnerabilities are identified and that urgent action is taken to mitigate vulnerabilities, thereby strengthening the Island\u2019s countering financial crime regime for the future. We will not tolerate the use of the Island for criminal activity and will not hesitate to act to disrupt and prosecute those responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
