It\u2019s no surprise that the gambling industry in Europe continues to grow \u2014 by \u20ac13.5 billion ($14.72 billion), according to the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest report from the association revealed that casino games account for 51% of the total online gaming gross gaming revenue in 2024, which increased by 15% year-over-year \u2014 and this is only among EGBA members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the total number of online stakes rose by 31% compared to 2023, reaching 177.7 billion (2023: 135.7 billion), with the overall amount reaching \u20ac215.6 billion ($235.00 billion), an 11% increase from the previous year (2023: \u20ac194.4 billion\/$211.90 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that the growth of these figures is largely attributed to EGBA\u2019s expansion, including the addition of Superbet Group and LeoVegas Group as new members throughout 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When looking at the revenue by product, casino games accounted for the largest share among members, generating \u20ac7 billion ($7.63 billion), or 51% of total revenue, followed by sports betting with \u20ac5.5 billion ($5.99 billion), or 41%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casino game revenue grew by 21% compared to the previous year, while sports betting revenue increased by 15% compared to 2023. Less prominent in value but still impressive in annual growth were bingo, with \u20ac0.4 billion ($436 million) (16% growth), and esports betting, with \u20ac0.1 billion ($109 million) (19% growth).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business in Focus, Players at the Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the continued growth of the European gambling market, this has not been at the expense of player interests. This is clearly demonstrated in the data from the 2024 European Safer Gambling Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative to promote responsible gambling saw 195 participants from 26 countries, leading to a safety campaign that reached 3 million citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In total, 67 million messages were sent to players to promote safer gambling, with 21 million users (65% of the EGBA-represented market) reporting using safer gambling tools in 2024 \u2014 a statistic celebrated by the trade association as an achievement in sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, rounded of the report by saying: \u201cIt was a significant year for EGBA: our membership expanded, we hosted a record-breaking European Safer Gambling Week that reached over 3 million citizens with safety messages, and we provided input into many important policy discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
