{"id":9042,"date":"2025-04-04T09:42:54","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T08:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=9042"},"modified":"2025-04-04T09:43:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T08:43:00","slug":"dazn-completes-acquisition-of-australias-foxtel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/04\/04\/dazn-completes-acquisition-of-australias-foxtel\/","title":{"rendered":"\u200bDAZN Completes Acquisition of Australia&#8217;s Foxtel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>DAZN<\/strong> has announced that it has completed its acquisition of <strong>Foxtel Group,<\/strong> one of Australia\u2019s largest sports media companies, from <strong>News Corp<\/strong> \u2013 the deal, reportedly worth <strong>$2.1bn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, Foxtel, <strong>Kayo Sports, BINGE and Hubbl<\/strong> will retain their identities and continue to show the <strong>Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL)<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acquisition marks the latest expansion of DAZN\u2019s international profile, with the company holding the media rights to several major sports tournaments and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the London-based firm\u2019s sportsbook, <strong>DAZN Bet<\/strong>, has been taken live in the UK, Italy, and Germany, and plans are underway for market launch in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DAZN Chief, <strong>Shay Segev<\/strong>, said: \u201cThe move marks a significant milestone for DAZN as we expand our global footprint into Australia, a key sports market with passionate fans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foxtel Group currently has 4.7 million subscribers across its subscription TV service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFoxtel\u2019s strong local presence, combined with DAZN\u2019s global scale, technology and content rights, will unlock incredible opportunities for sports fans, advertisers and partners, while continuing to deliver great drama, lifestyle and news content,\u201d Segev added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note, however, that News Corp will still hold a 6% stake in DAZN, while Co-Owner <strong>Telstra<\/strong> \u201cwill claim 3% of DAZN\u201d. Prior to the agreement, the pair owned 65% and 35%, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foxtel CEO, <strong>Patrick Delany<\/strong>, detailed: \u201cDAZN&#8217;s ownership allows the Foxtel Group to remain an Australian-based business, with an Australian team and the sport, drama and entertainment that Australians love.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs part of DAZN, we now benefit from their global scale, their leading technology platform, and their track record in innovation that will allow us to more effectively compete with the global streaming giants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The streaming service emphasised that there will now be a phased integration process, with Foxtel to be known as \u2018a DAZN company\u2019 in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as the NRA and AFL, Foxtel also holds rights in <strong>Formula 1<\/strong>, and in a recently expanded deal, Australian domestic cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also prominent in professional cricket, for example, with its deal with the <strong>Indian Premier League (IPL) T20<\/strong> competition that runs through to 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, it seems that DAZN\u2019s ambitions in Australia are limited to media, with the country\u2019s appetite for various sports proving a lucrative proposition.
