{"id":9819,"date":"2025-06-17T13:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T12:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=9819"},"modified":"2025-06-17T13:18:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T12:18:17","slug":"sweden-checks-bloggers-amid-fight-against-illegal-gambling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/06\/17\/sweden-checks-bloggers-amid-fight-against-illegal-gambling\/","title":{"rendered":"\u200b\u200bSweden Checks Bloggers Amid Fight Against Illegal Gambling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen<\/strong>, has conducted a major crackdown on influencers promoting illegal gambling operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the regulatory body, it initiated supervision against several influencers who were found to have marketed illegal gambling through their online channels, predominantly on the video-sharing platform <strong>Twitch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The marketing of illegal gambling activities, if aimed at Swedish customers, is prohibited under the country\u2019s <strong>Gambling Act<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spelinspektionen explained in a statement that its operational plan for the year is to focus on \u201cyoung people\u2019s gambling and illegal gambling\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Swedish Gambling Authority will continue to conduct supervision against influencers and other actors who conduct or promote illegal gambling under the Gambling Act,\u201d the regulator added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the supervision, Spelinspektionen confirmed that the influencers in question had stopped marketing illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sweden\u2019s focus on advertising standards follows a focus on influencer advertising that has been witnessed in many jurisdictions around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most recently, <strong>Kenya\u2019s<\/strong> regulator, the <strong>Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLC)<\/strong>, published a strict set of rules on advertising, which include a ban on using influencers and content creators to promote gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the <strong>Brazilian<\/strong> market hit the headlines following testimony from the beauty and lifestyle influencer, <strong>Virginia Fonseca<\/strong>. When questioned by Senators, Fonseca appeared to demonstrate a lack of knowledge about the gaming products she was advertising, underpinning the need for clarity in the newly regulated markets\u2019 advertising policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside regulators, the streaming platforms that are at the heart of the advertising efforts have also undertaken policy changes to try and target the promotion of illegal gambling operators.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>YouTube<\/strong> toughened its guidelines on content related to gambling, prohibiting the promotion of \u201cunapproved\u201d websites by creators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of gambling sites, this refers to those that don\u2019t meet local requirements and haven\u2019t been reviewed by <strong>YouTube <\/strong>or parent company <strong>Google<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twitch updated its policy towards certain gambling-related content in 2022, announcing a ban on the streaming of gambling sites not licensed in the US or other jurisdictions that \u201cprovide sufficient consumer protection\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, such a policy does not stretch to creators promoting illegal gambling sites through advertisements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to subscribe to our <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/sbceurasia\">Telegram channel<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, has conducted a major crackdown on influencers promoting illegal gambling operators.
