{"id":9907,"date":"2025-06-25T09:40:20","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T08:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=9907"},"modified":"2025-06-25T09:40:25","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T08:40:25","slug":"new-zealand-calls-on-online-casino-operators-to-declare-interest-in-operating-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/06\/25\/new-zealand-calls-on-online-casino-operators-to-declare-interest-in-operating-in-the-country\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand Calls on Online Casino Operators to Declare Interest in Operating in the Country"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>New Zealand\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>gambling regulator<\/strong> is asking for operators who have an interest in the country\u2019s online casino framework to register ahead of the launch of the new market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trina Lowry<\/strong>, the Online Gambling Implementation Programme Director, noted that the regulator wants input from operators so that the country\u2019s online casino market is as cooperative as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we continue to design and implement the system, we want to ensure it is clear, efficient and supportive for potential operators,\u201d noted Lowry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo help us achieve this, we want to engage with operators to understand what information would be most helpful as the process unfolds and understand their experience and needs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheduled to go live <strong>in early 2026<\/strong>, New Zealand\u2019s online casino market is expected to have up to 15 three-year licences available for operators via an auction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Internal Affairs is expected to be the market\u2019s regulator, and its corresponding online gambling bill is forecasted to progress through Parliament this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a release on its website, the regulator called on operators to register their interest if they are eyeing New Zealand\u2019s online casino market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operators will be expected to meet a variety of regulatory requirements to be considered for licensing, including a levy contribution to fund the country\u2019s gambling harm support services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How online casino operators will contribute under the upcoming regulations is yet to be disclosed. Still, <strong>Matt Doocey<\/strong>, Minister for Mental Health, recently stated that how they will contribute is currently being calculated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main reasons why New Zealand is opting to launch an online casino market is to protect its players against unregulated offshore operators, as the regulator has recently been on a push to crack down on the promotion of offshore online casinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnline casino gambling is not new in New Zealand.
