{"id":9937,"date":"2025-06-27T10:32:42","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T09:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/?p=9937"},"modified":"2025-06-27T10:32:47","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T09:32:47","slug":"three-year-growth-strategy-fdj-united-aims-to-expand-across-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbceurasia.com\/en\/2025\/06\/27\/three-year-growth-strategy-fdj-united-aims-to-expand-across-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Three-Year Growth Strategy: FDJ UNITED Aims to Expand Across Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FDJ UNITED<\/strong> has revealed bold plans to achieve significant growth in European markets over the next three years, after the French lottery operator completed the integration of the recently-acquired <strong>Kindred Group<\/strong> into the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has publicly stated its ambition to become Europe\u2019s leading gambling operator after a series of acquisitions provided platforms for growth outside its core French market and the lottery sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has now added detail to its ambition by telling shareholders that it is targeting average annual organic revenue growth of around 5% and a recurring EBITDA margin of more than 26% by 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairwoman and CEO of FDJ UNITED, <strong>St\u00e9phane Pallez<\/strong>, said: \u201cFDJ UNITED has undergone a considerable transformation since its IPO, with financial and non-financial performance underscoring the success of our strategy for sustainable, profitable growth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c2025 is a pivotal year for the group, with the consolidation of Kindred, the benefits of which are reflected in our \u2018Play Forward 2028\u2019 strategic plan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis plan opens a new chapter in our transformation, with the ambition of asserting our position as Europe\u2019s leading responsible betting and gaming operator, based on a more diversified, more digital and more international business portfolio. \u2018Play Forward 2028\u2019 aims to continue to create value for our shareholders and all our stakeholders.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further targets announced included achieving recurring EBITDA to free cash flow conversion rate remaining above 80%, as well as cumulative capital expenditure between \u20ac650m ($702m) and \u20ac700m ($756m).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A taxing time for growth ambitions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FDJ has placed greater emphasis on its digital and international presence since 2019, which now account for 35% and 26% of revenue, respectively. This helped it to achieve overall turnover of \u20ac3.8bn ($4.1bn) and yearly organic growth of more than 5%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also undertaken an acquisition spree in the past three years, snapping up Premier Lotteries Ireland for \u20ac350m ($378m), French horseracing betting group ZEturf for \u20ac175m ($189m) and most notably Unibet owner Kindred Group Plc for \u20ac2.4bn.($2.59bn.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last of those deals has given FDJ reach into multiple new markets and a significant presence in Europe\u2019s online casino sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the task of continuing its growth trajectory via organic routes faces the hurdle of tax increases and stricter regulation in several major markets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most worrying for the group are the changes in its home French market, where it expects to take a \u20ac45 million ($48.6m) hit as a result of social security changes and industry-specific tax rises. For example, online sports betting tax is due to increase from 54.9\u202f% to \u202f59.3\u202f%, while online poker will climb from 0.2\u202f% of stakes to 10\u202f% of GGR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s board will be hoping that some of that may be offset by the legalisation of online casinos in France, although progress towards that goal appears to have stalled and the timelines is, at best, uncertain.
