Black Lion, the first professional Georgian rugby team, will make their mark on history by participating in the annual European Professional Club Rugby’s Challenge Cup scheduled for December.
The club will enter the battle in sub-group 3 against Castres Olympique, Scarlets, Gloucester Rugby and ASM Clermont Auvergne, two former champions. Black Lion will play two home games in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.
Georgian rugby and EPCR held lengthy negotiations before the EPCR administration decided to invite Black Lion to the prestigious competition, which is attended by recognized European teams.
The creation of the club was initiated by the national governing body with the aim of introducing a modern franchising model of club rugby in the country.
